NOT HOME ALONE: Walking down Southwest Third Avenue during the lunch hour today I said to my friend: "Oh. My. God. That's Daniel Stern!" Which she replied, "who?"

"You know, Daniel Stern" I said. "The guy from Home Alone, Breaking Away, C.H.U.D....The Wonder Years."

"Oh, that guy," was her reply. "So why is he in town?"

I told her that he was here to work with Third Rail Rep on their production of "American Buffalo" and that I think his daughter goes to Reed College.

But at the moment he, like any decent slacking Portlander, was just leaning against the wall, checking what looked like sports scores on his Blackberry.

That was until I interrupted him. "Mr. Stern," I said. "Is it okay if I take your picture?"

He said, "sure."

He was surprised I recognized him and then even a little chatty, commenting on how much fun he had performing music Friday night at Northeast's Portland Playhouse.

When I said I planned on taking a couple of more photos he said, "No, one will do."

The exclusive photo above, outside Portland's Tonsorial Parlor, was shot at 12:30 pm, Thursday Jan. 14. I think he was going to have lunch at nearby Hubers. If you hurry, you might even catch him coming out of the restaurant.
