(BIRTHDAY) GIRL POWER: Two of the most (soon-to-be) powerful women in Portland, Oregon—one in the world of politics, one in the music venue world—each had a birthday shin-dig on Saturday night.

Karol Collymore, above left,  of Blue Oregon (and possible legislative future) fame, held hers at the Southeast burners bar/dance club Crush, while Alicia J. Rose, above right, of Mississippi Studio, Miss Murgatroid and photography fame, was feted at a former Southeast Portland funeral home called The Woods.

Now, guess which smashing soiree would be the freaky deaky one?

Yeah, it surprised me too.

Who knew the "wonks" would be such party animals?

Now that might have had a lot to do with the deejays.

Crush's kicked ass, while it was hard to find the person in charge of the tunes at The Woods (perhaps that's how a Peter Cetera song slipped in there without any ironic foreshadowing at all).

That said, I love both of these very lovely ladies. And I loved both of their parties.  Here are some photos from each:
