BEND GARDEN PARTY: At Basic Rights Oregon, love means equality for all. BRO just kicked off its summer tour of the state talking to Oregonians about trans-inclusive health care, racial justice and celebrating the freedom to marry.
BRO's first stop was in Bend, Oregon at the lovely home of Mike and Sue Hollern. My aunt, Judy Smith, talked about Mike and Sue during a brief speech at the garden party. She called the Hollerns the "first family" of Bend, Oregon. And I completely agree. The Hollerns and their friends are big supporters of equality, and this was the fourth time that they hosted this very special party.
The Bend Garden Party—an afternoon of light bites, refreshing beverages and entertainment—welcomed friends, family (including members of my own family) and wonderful residents of Central Oregon and beyond. Members of Basic Rights Oregon’s staff provided the most up to date information about the work being done statewide for LGBT rights, and how folks can get more involved as we all move forward toward full lived equality for all LGBT Oregonians statewide!
Special thanks to the Host Committee—Mike and Sue Hollern, Cliff Cook, Katie Wendel, Judy Smith—and really cool sponsors including Strictly Organic Coffee Co. The Sparrow Bakery Ninkasi Brewing Fred Meyer, Pizza Mondo Bend, Oregon and Jackson’s Corner. And a big thanks to Adam and Rachel Albright.
