RAINBOW'S END: See that rainbow in the photo above? It's very faint, but it's there, ending on the edge of the beach where Hood River meets the Columbia River.

It's also the exact same spot where I last spent time with my friend, Jen Lyon.

On Saturday, my partner, Juan, joined Jen's best friend, Kristy McKenzie and her hubby Joe for a little road to trip to Hood River. It was in honor of Jen's 40th birthday, which is actually today.

We all wished Jen could have joined us for a little wine tasting at Naked Winery and dinner at Full Sail, but Jen was not able to join us. She had passed on away a while ago. Neither Kristy nor I had been back to Hood River since Jen's passing. Jen, an alumni of the Survivor reality series, had returned from Los Angeles to Hood River where she had hoped to recover from the cancer which eventually took her life. She was only in Hood River for a week before she died.

I had my chance to visit with Jen in Hood River. It was a few months before she decided to move back. That's when we took a long walk on a short beach. Our walk ended right where that rainbow ends.

On Saturday, when I saw that rainbow peek through the clouds I grabbed Kristy and we ran as fast as we could toward the river before it turned into thin air.  That's when we turned toward each other and both said, "Happy Birthday, Jen."
